Have you ever gone to a clothing exchange party? I haven't until a few weeks ago! I became inspired to host my own after seeing a commercial about a clothing exchange party in Hollywood. I always wondered how to pull one off so I thought I would experiment with my girlfriends. I mean, why not? We all love to shop with our girls, so this shouldn't be any less fun. Actually this could be even more enjoyable because credit cards and cash aren't necessary! :) Do you want to learn how to throw a clothing exchange party? I guarantee a fabulous time for you and your girlfriends!
Here's what you'll need to do...
Set the Date... sounds like I'm referring to a wedding date, huh?! haha ;) Pick your party date! Friday or Saturday after dinner is usually the best time.
Food & Drinks...Decide what food and drinks you'll have at your clothing exchange party. If you decide to have your party after dinner, pick a dessert. Chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cupcakes are a hit. If you decide to bake them yourself, make sure you do so the night before the party. If you would like some help in this area, ask your girlfriends to bring something. We all know how sweet and helpful they are in this department. Just let them know what your overall food theme is...for example: if you're having chocolate desserts, have them bring a milky cocktail (like chocolate wine!) to accentuate the flavor.
Send out an Evite...Create a free invitation via Evite.com with your party details...date...time...address. Add specific notes like where they could park, or if you have animals. Some friends might be allergic. Ask your girlfriends to bring clothes they don't wear anymore that are still in good shape. Remind them that this also includes shoes, purses, necklaces, rings, earrings, scarves and watches too! Accessories seem to be the most popular exchanging items.
Prepare Your Home...This is the fun part! Decide which space you'd like to use in your home. Wherever you have the most space that can fit as many chairs as you'll need is your best bet. Figure out where you can display the goods. Use your coffee table, media center, dining room table or fold up tables to display clothes and accessories. If you have a few extra bucks, purchase a garment rack at Target for less than $30.
Devote a space for drinks and desserts. I always use the bar space in my kitchen to display drinks and desserts. Wherever you can fit all the dishes and drinks will be great! Make sure you have enough glasses for your guests. Bring out any platters to display those delicious goodies! Have some fun and add cute, girly napkins and wine charms. I highly recommend Sur la Table or Pier 1 Imports for these sweet little finds. They usually cost $3-$6 at most.
Mirrors! Small vanity mirrors are awesome for trying on necklaces and earrings. If you have a full length mirror in your bedroom, bring that out too! Your friends will want to check themselves out in the mirror. Beware: If your friends like what they have on, it will turn into a fashion show! (Check me out on the left!- LOL JK!) Impromptu fashion shows are usually derived from alcohol consumption. In that case you're probably going to run low at this point, so be sure to have your boyfriend or husband on call to fetch more wine from the store. ;)
Playlist...You know how you always hear fun, upbeat music at your favorite store? That's because it gets us in the mood to shop! Go through your playlist and pick fun, upbeat songs to get your night off on the right foot.
Clean Your Casa...The most used spaces for the evening will be your bathroom (hello dressing room!) and where ever you have the clothes displayed. Make sure you vacuum your space, clean the bathroom counters, toilet- (gross, I know!) and mirror. Place a yummy candle in there as well and maybe a few flowers for a fun touch.
VOILA! You're all set for your party! When your guests arrive, serve them a drink, help them display their clothes and accessories in the right places and start your clothing exchange party!
