I've read and loved many of Lori Wicks books before, especially the Rocky mountains series or Sophies heart, but I have to say that I am very disappointed by her English garden series. It seems to me that she hasn't done any research at all about life in England at the beginning of the 19th century and picking most of the names from Jane Austen novels just isn't enough to make a good book. And even in Jane Austen's books the ladies do a lot more than just picking flowers and arranging them in vases all over the house. The writing style is very strange yet rather simple, e.g. whenever a conversation starts it's shortened to the beginning and the end and in the middle 'he did fill her in' or 'she told them what had happened'. Whole conversations are very seldom to be read in this book. And I have failed to count the number of times someone 'did the honors' in these three books.As for the content: A young woman is forced to marry an English gentleman, wealthy of course, by her deranged father who mistook a harmless embrace. Of course the husband Robert Weston isn't pleased about it and feels he's been cheated into marriage by his wife and her father and leaves her alone in his estate while going back to London for a while. When he comes back he, naturally, realizes what a mistake this has been and what a lovely wife he has so everything ends in marital bliss.And at last an information for the publisher: 1811 isn't Victorian England, since Victoria (born in 1819) didn't become Queen until 1837.
